Although the topics are complicated, that answer is simple. Intelligent Design (ID) is science, whereas Creationism is faith based. ID just looks at the issue from a purely scientific perspective and says the Universe is so complex that it must have had a Designer. Creationism agrees with ID but goes on to name the Designer: God. ID never quotes Scripture, whereas Creationism is all about explaining the Scriptural viewpoint. So, although they share the central point that Creation needs a Creator, Intelligent Design stops short of identifying the Designer.
The two groups also share a common adversary: Darwinian Evolution. The Theory of Evolution (TOE) says that all things (Origin of the Universe, Origin of Life, Origin of the Species) happened through the power of random chance and time. ID says that the TOE is unreliable because it denies all basic scientific evidence. Creationism says that the TOE is unreliable because it denies the Scriptures.
As you will see, this site includes the ID perspective, but its main focus is Creationism. So yes, I believe in a Supreme Being. A Being so Supreme that He is able to not only create the Universe, He is able to sustain it. I came to this conclusion not based on emotions, but on evidence. The emotions came afterwards. Emotions I had never experienced before. It was both humbling and exalting at the same time. God wanted me to know Him! He already knew me, but He wanted me to know Him! But why me? I am a no-good, rotten, low-life fool! Why would he want to have anything to do with such a wretch? Because that’s His Nature. He is the Redeemer. He wants to take us out of the mud, mire and muck of this world and put our feet on the Rock.
Atheism/Evolution says the Universe came from nothing (all by itself) and life and DNA sprang into existence (all by itself) and mankind evolved (all by itself) because given enough time an amoeba will turn into a human. We don't have a shred of evidence to back their claims. We have MICRO evolution (better defined as "adaptation") where we see species adapting to their environment, but that is a far cry from Darwin's claim that over time a catfish will turn into a cat.
In contrast, the Bible says that God created the Universe and all life. The Bible denies evolution in many ways but especially the radical Darwinian notion of trans-species morphination. The first chapter of the Book of Genesis says that God made all living creatures "according to its kind" (species). So the Bible says that God made all life (plants first, then animals) "according to their species" In other words, they were created specifically to be what they are. Each species being different and unique. Over time we would see those species adapt to their environment, but we have no evidence that one species would morph into another.
He also said to His Creation to "be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth." The Hebrew word for fruitful is "parah," which means "to reproduce." The Hebrew word for multiply is "rabah," which means "to increase in number." The Hebrew word for replenish is "male" which means "to make full." So God was saying to take what He had done in Creation, and "reproduce" it to its fullness. He got the ball rolling, now Creation was to take its charted course and fill the earth to completion. The implication was a continuation of what God had done, not a mutation.
The fact is, if evolution was true, we should be able to see inter-species transformation all around us, literally everywhere. But the opposite is true. No one has EVER found ANY evidence of trans-species morphination. What we DO see all around us is exactly what God said, that each species is multiplying “according to its kind.”
So why has science and society adopted the Theory of Evolution as their religion? Why do they worship their suppositions with such tenacity and ardor? Why have they force fed their doctrine to our children and demanded its acceptation and adoration although they have no evidence? Because they loathe the implications of Creationism. Creationism obviously implies a Creator, which implies some sort of servitude or submission, and that does not sit well with the average atheist, let alone a sophisticated physicist.
In the days that the New Testament was being written, idolatry was the norm, just as it is in India (Hinduism) today. Paul address the issue of idolatry in Romans 1:20-25:
"20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. 24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator."
It's easy to see why this was an issue back then. But are today's Evolutionists any different? These verses are just as applicable today:
1) For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.
2) Professing to be wise, they became fools.
3) Who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator.
They claim to be so wise. They think they are so intelligent that they have figured out the Universe, and they worship their knowledge and natural selection rather than God. They marvel at the complexity of DNA, and worship random chance and mutation, rather than God. They are just beginning to understand the complexity of the Universe, but instead of worshipping the Creator, they marvel at their own intellect.
Funny thing is, in the 1800's, atheists were speaking out against the intellectual oppression of the Catholic Church, saying that she oppresses anything scientific that doesn't line up with Catholic dogma. That's exactly what's going on today, but there has been a paradigm shift. It is now the Darwinians who are oppressing Intelligent Design. Many have lost their jobs at public schools and universities just for mentioning Intelligent Design in the classroom. This has been well documented in the Ben Stein documentary "Expelled. No Intelligence Allowed." They say, "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely." With society in general drifting from Scripture to science, the scientific community is grabbing for absolute control of all levels of public learning, spreading their religion of evolution and it's sidekick atheism.
Man has an innate and insatiable desire for information. That’s why some people will spend an entire day taking apart a watch or a toaster, just to see how it works. That’s why the federal government spends BILLIONs of your hard earned tax dollars to take a photograph of Pluto. The very definition of science is the pursuit of information or knowledge. But what have we really gained from that knowledge? What exactly are the fruits of that labor? A photograph of Pluto is nice, but did it feed starving kids in Africa? Did it bring about world peace? Obviously not.
I personally believe that God put that desire for knowledge and understanding in our DNA. I believe it was to create an innate and insatiable desire to know HIM. But, we have perverted that desire and are pursuing knowledge and understanding of the creation rather than the Creator.
Science is facinating, but on its own it cannot answer the hard questions like, “Why am I here?” and “What is my purpose?” and maybe even more important, “Where do I go when I die?” I see science as man's attempt to understand Creation. Science sees itself as man's attempt to understand Nature, and in the process explain why we don't need God.
Now that photos of Pluto are old news, NASA is now preparing a mission to Europa to better understand its geology. Billions will be spent, but what will be accomplished? Some have said that most scientist are evolutionists and have a hidden agenda to find evidence of life on other planets to solely combat Creationism. I doubt that is their main objective, but it will only give them false hope, because the Scriptures do not say if there is or isn't life on other planets. So their discoveries will provide no evidence for or against Creationism.
Believer vs Atheist/Agnostic
There are three basic camps of belief on the topic of Creation versus Evolution: The Believer, The Atheist and The Agnostic. Most folks think that an atheist and an agnostic are about the same thing, but they are radically different animals.
The Atheist boldly states, “I know there is no God.” Really? There are approximately 100 billion stars in our galaxy and approximately 100 billion galaxies. You’ve never even been off this planet, and yet you “know” there is no God? To even approach intellectual honesty, we must conclude that atheists don’t exist. No one in their right mind would say that they “know” there is no god.
The Agnostic is generally more realistic and honest and simply says, “If there is a God, I have not found Him.” Yes, that is more intellectually honest, but a sad commentary on their intestinal fortitude. The reality is that the atheist looks hard for reasons not to believe, and the agnostic doesn’t look at all.
The Believer is an agnostic who took the time to look at the evidence and pursued the Truth with a passion. They looked for reasons to believe, and found plenty of evidence and drew the logical conclusions.
This site will take a look at that evidence with the hope that you will not only find new a new perspective but also hope, peace and your true purpose in life.
